Tailoring Vocational Training

Education is crucial for ‘Solidarity with Orphans‘. Unfortunately, graduating from a school does not necessarily ensure a job in a company. Due to high levels of unemployment, we created facilities of vocational training in order to complement our educational efforts and ensure more independence for the orphans. The project has been initiated in 2000 and is situated in Bukoba, the biggest city of the region. It aims at financially sustaining itself within the next few years by selling products which are being fabricated by the girls.

The St. Therese Sisters exclusively train girls and women in tailoring. The vocational training lasts for 3 years. In order to graduate, the trainees have to pass a national exam. Moreover, every apprentice signs a contract by which she commits herself to support the project after her graduation according to her individual possibilities. It is of special concern to ‘Solidarity with Orphans‘ to support girls and women in particular, as boys enjoy many privileges over girls. In order to increase prospects for success in the future, every graduate attains a sewing machine at their graduation.

At the moment, we intend to build an additional building since the training facilities are not yet ideal.

‘Solidarity with Orphans‘ has committed itself to provide highest levels of transparency so that donors have the possibility to follow up what and how much is being achieved with their donations. Therefore, in the following we will provide you with the persons in charge as well as with financial expenditures.

Currently, we are still working on a detailed enlistment of financial expenditures. We apologize for that.

Persons in charge are Sister Clara Modest, Mariam Josephat Chungu and Evelina Kabanza.
