Carpentry
Education is crucial for ‘Solidarity with Orphans‘. Unfortunately, graduating from a school does not necessarily ensure a job in a company. Due to high levels of unemployment, we created facilities of vocational training in order to complement our educational efforts and ensure more independence for the orphans. The carpentry project was initiated in September 2003 for male orphans, representing a professional training with an officially approved degree. It aims at financially sustaining itself within the next few years by selling products which are being fabricated by the boys.
Education
‘Solidarity with Orphans‘ regards education as the greatest potential for fighting poverty. Knowledge enables young boys and girls to take on responsibility for both themselves and others. For this reason, starting in 1991, we have been supporting orphans and half-orphans by financing their school fees. In 2008, we enabled around 850 children to visit 5 primary and 2 secondary schools. In order to generate conditions for effective and promising learning results, our support also embraces the provision of school uniforms and school equipment.
Tailoring
Education is crucial for ‘Solidarity with Orphans‘. Unfortunately, graduating from a school does not necessarily ensure a job in a company. Due to high levels of unemployment, we created facilities of vocational training in order to complement our educational efforts and ensure more independence for the orphans. The project has been initiated in 2000 and is situated in Bukoba, the biggest city of the region. It aims at financially sustaining itself within the next few years by selling products which are being fabricated by the girls.
The Soap Project
The soap project is situated with the St. Therese Sisters. It has two objectives: One, selling hard- and liquid soap locally can generate income that is independent and separate from donations. Two, it helps improving the hygienic condition of the orphans as soap as distributed for free.
